HEPRO Cape was established in 1985 by a group of South African investors who recognised irradiation as the technology of the future.

Two of the Founder members, Dr Rocco Basson and Dr JK Basson respectively a Radiation Chemist and a Radiation Physicist steered the company through the early phases of acceptance of this technology.

The design of the facility, BP1, is a Batch Pallet irradiator and is a wholly South African designed and manufactured facility.

The design of the facility allows the company to serve the wide range of requirements of its customers being able to deliver doses of 150Gy upwards.

This has put HEPRO in the unique position of being able to irradiate fruit for export enabling new markets to be established for the Fruit Industry.
